Wellness DIY: Elderberry Syrup Immune Boost

Elderberry syrup is a great way to give your family’s immune systems a boost! It helps not only prevent colds and the flu, but it has been shown to reduce the time of a cold or flu by 50%! We love to make a batch for the Fall and Winter months to help keep our families healthy and we want to share this recipe with you!

Ingredients:

3 1/2 Cups Filtered Water

2/3 Cup Organic Dried Elderberries

2 Tablespoons Ground Ginger

1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

1/2 Teaspoon Cloves

1 Cup Honey

Directions:

Combine water, dried elderberries, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves in a large mixing bowl. Set mixture to simmer on the stove for 45 minutes – 60 minutes. The liquid should be reduced by about half. Strain the mixture and set aside to cool. Once it’s cooled, stir in the honey.

You can store this in a glass jar in the refrigerator for about 3 weeks. Any leftovers can be frozen. You can also make gummies for the kids!

Elderberry Gummies:

In a small pot over low heat whisk together 1 cup of Elderberry syrup and 3 tablespoons of gelatin
(we like this one: Great Lakes Unflavored Gelatin, Regular, 16 Ounce Can). Continue mixing until liquid thickens to a syrup state. Remove and pour into silicone molds. Allow to solidify completely and then pop out!  Store in fridge for up to 3 weeks.
